As usual, Ken Burns has done a splendid job with his new documentary, The Roosevelts: An Intimate History. Like you, I've read quite a bit about the era, FDR being a personal hero, but Burns has managed to come up with some new stuff, as hard as that is to believe after all these years. This is one set I'm buying!
One thing I already knew was that Laura Delano was a bitch. Can you imagine greeting Eleanor with "BTW, Franklin's old girlfriend Lucy Mercer was here when he died and had been seeing him several times throughout the past few years, and your daughter Anna arranged for the meetings in the White House while you were away," before Franklin's body was even cold. Man, that's a special kind of vicious!
4: One more: watching The Adventures Of Superman. It's from the black-and-white first season with Phyllis Coates instead of Noel Neill as Lois. Apparently Phyllis came across as 'too tough' and so they replaced her with Noel. I like her and she was tough, too, but they considered her more 'feminine'. Sheesh!
I remember watching that when I was a wee kiddie! I hardly remember any plot or who the actors were, I could barely even understand the language, we had only just moved to America. But one scene I´ll never forget: Superman squeezed a lump of coal and transformed it into a perfectly cut diamond!
