You slipped
Through my fingers,
Borne away
On the breeze,
Like leaves in autumn.

The first time
I lost you,
The wind howled,
Cold and cruel,
As it ripped you
Away from me
In winter rage.

This wind
Was zephyr-light,
Gentle and whispering.

The first time,
I screamed.

The second time,
I whimpered.

Both times
I cried
In desperation.

Desolate.
