(why do I always want to say humidity instead of humanity?)

I've thought about volunteering for Habitat as well - maybe if I have someone else to do it with I'll actually get around to it! I worry a bit about their Xtian background, but I'm told they aren't in your face about it on projects.

eek! didn't know the xtian thing. i talked with parag about hh the other night and he didn't mention it. i won't mind a little xtain conversion aimed at me, but if they only build homes for xtians then i would not participate.
i'll ask parag.
the other places i'vew considered:
big brother: this si something that i would like to try as i have heard it can be really rewarding, but my understanding is that it requires a year commitment and several hours a week (again all knowledge is anecdotal). i want to see how i take to this volunteering thing b4 i take on a big one (especially since it would involve somebody's emotions).
the path or some other public health non-profit: i'm just interested in this field.

I just read a book that I think you'll like. It's called "Gun, With Occasional Music" by Jonathan Lethem. The cover said it was like Raymond Chandler meets Philip K. Dick, and well, that's pretty dead-on. A noir sci-fi detective story (some of the same themes as that majic kingdom book you gave me but better writing).
