It seems to me that Bastille Day, the French holiday celebrated July 14, is a confused subject for many Americans, judging by a few things I've read and by the fact that I myself didn't know what it was until I got here. Bastille day is sweet or the people of France are sweet or maybe it's jut the government who organizes these things but if you happen to be abroad and would appreciate celebrating the Revolution head to your nearest embassy because they put on a real party with champaign and mustard for all those who can prove citizenship. The US embassy closes on our independece day and all holidays for that matter. lame.

I had it set so that I had to authorize anonymous comments for others to see because a while back there were some anonymous people writing really random shit, but I changed that now. Sorry for any confusion you may have experienced ;)

That is indeed sweet and the U.S. embassy is indeed lame. Not just for that but I went there one time just to get a list of officially recognized translators and I felt rather unwelcome or like I was trying to break into a bank vault or something (I didn't actually get in, they had the list there at the security enterance and sent me on my way). And I'm an American citizen. I have a Canadien LJ friend who is touring America by train right now and he described how lovely it was to be treated as ''the lowest of terrorist pieces of shit" while trying to enter into the country. Yep, American definitely rules in everything concerning foreign relations...
