Your use of directional movement is always excellent, but I really LOVED it in this vid. The way you followed through on push-ins in particular, like at 0:19. It's so fluid and lovely. I liked how the "shaky frames" on each of the gold-toned characters felt like heartbeats. Was that deliberate? Very metaphoric and nicely done. Loved the panning up (I know you can't "pan up", but so far no one's told me what the tech term is) at 0:54 - I get such a huge happy whenever anyone uses it in a vid. It's such a handsome shot. :D ( ... )

Thanks, Nicky! I really felt like this one is the closest I've come to executing the concept I originally had, which must mean I'm improving on the editing end ( ... )

What a great concept and execution. Now I'm depressed for three reasons: the episode, the end of the show, and the end of your FF vids. Hopefully you'll eventually return, as you're without a doubt one of the best vidders in this fandom.

Ah, don't feel depressed! Well, actually I was kinda going for that so... But there's supposed to be hope too. Feel the hope!

Thank you for the deeply humbling compliment, seriously. I'll definitely do another Firefly vid someday. This was just the last of my FF ideas for the moment.

Oh god I think I injured myself internally laughing at the last graph. It's interesting you mentioned the big red button - I thought fans would know it was there and non-fans would understand what it means. I swear Cornell's songs work so well for Firefly (and Buffy) I think I could vid every song on that CD.

Your timestamps mentioned almost all of my original concepts for the vid - the first-person stumbling down the hall, Mal falling over and over (yay someone liked that!), and the disappearing images. Hope they were as impressive as they were in my head. The pan up to the dining room table was just a happy accident, with me discovering a transition that fit the source footage as I was editing it together and going "hey, that works."

I'm so happy you enjoyed it. You're such a talented vidder, so it really means a lot.

Brad, I snatched five minutes last night and watched it. I adored it.

I like to say why, when I am not buried under stuff to do before I go away Friday. So just to say 'bloody fantastic' in a kind of 'Gilesy' tone and I'll be back with some details later.

Glad you liked it! Opinion seems a little divided over this one, but I'd have to say I'm as pleased with it as I have been of any of my vids. It's definitely the vid I wanted to make when I set out on this project.

Oh, and yay for Gilesy tones. Kim and I are rewatching Buffy now to prep for the Spike vid, and I completely forgot what a riot Giles is.

'opinion seems a little divided' pfftt opinion doesn't know a good vid when it sees it.

'A New Man' S4 - Giles as a Fyarl demon in a car chase with Spike, I never tire of the episode. Espenson at her best.

Jane Espenson is just all sorts of awesome. My love for that woman never runs out. :D

great job dude! :) i dled the small version &...

i liked the visual "heartbeat-like" moments that are spotlit on each of the characters in mal's life. it was a very clever idea. its like each one supplies him with another heartbeat, another moment of time to live & try & fix his ship.

i also LOVED the scenes fading into each other with the fullness to the emptiness or vice-versa! Awesome pacing too! :):)

Heck, it was an AWESOME vid in EVERY WAY! :)

Hey, thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.

The heartbeat moments and the empty-fading were my two basic concepts for the vid in terms of expressing the sense of loss. It's a complex thing to try get across, so I'm glad the message made it.

And I really appreciate the compliments.
