So last night I finally finished "Song of Susannah," the sixth and penultimate volume of the "Dark Tower" series.

Here's what I thought of it )

vampires, dark tower, fun, new to do, writing, books, requiem

I hadn't quite thought about it that way, but I can totally see what you mean. Book 6 took me much longer to finish than the others, and it was probably the most lackluster of the 7. It just didn't do much for me, other than set me up for the final book.

Tangentially, have you read the King/Straub books yet? The Talisman and Black House are two of my favorite DT-related works, and Black House, IIRC, fits in very well between Books 5 & 6. =)

and liked it, but I never read "Black House."

Funnily enough, secret_stuff also said that there are many references to "Dark Tower" in "Black House," which makes sense on the name value alone. :)

Heh. I read them in reverse. I thought Black House was a stand-alone novel, and it wasn't until I'd finished it that I discovered The Talisman.

Black House is a creeeeeeeeepy story. It kind of parallels the DT saga and it has lots of direct references to the DT, but it's worth reading even on its own. There've been rumors about a 3rd book in the Straub/King series, but I sadly haven't heard anything recent.

But yeah, I highly recommend Black House. Awesome, creepy stuff. =)

Yeah, it wasn't the best book in the series. I do still love the whole arc of the full story though.

Oh, and you might check out this page to see where characters jump from novel to novel and which books are tied together into the Dark Tower world:
