"In violent times, you shouldn't have to sell your soul..."

Here's something I can't believe is actually happening: The New Jersey Attorney General's office subpoenaed all the major telecom players to get proof if they collected customer information for the NSA, and the Justice Department is suing to stop the move.:

"Compliance with the subpoenas issued by those officers would first place the carriers in a position of having to confirm or deny the existence of information that cannot be confirmed or denied without causing exceptionally grave harm to national security," the lawsuit said.

So, if there is nothing to hide, why prevent the release of records? After all, both BellSouth and Verizon claimed they didn't interfere. Oh, wait, what they actually said is that they didn't "unlawfully" gather our information. And in Bushworld, lawful is whatever the President says it is, regardless of Constitutional or legal precedent.

And remember, the "market" will be all we need to trust to protect us from cases of telecoms limiting our Internet access. Because, y'know, they'd never do anything that didn't have the customer's best interests at heart.

I got into it with a bunch of people over at interdictor over a letter...well, read it yourself. One interesting comment I found: I'm a New Yorker, and was living off East Broadway (walking distance toWorld Trade on 9/11). Had a lotta people lost that day. I still have nightmares, and I've moved furthur away.

And you know what, noone gave a fuck how we all spent the money, not really. But here comes Katrina, and everyone is now "OMG someone bought an Ipod with money given with no strings attached! That's TEH EVIL".

Well, as it turns out, there was rampant theft at the 9/11 site as well, but we're only now just hearing about it...after it's been revealed that FBI agents were heavy into it. It amazes me how many people are freaking out over the robbery and looting in NOLA post-Katrina even now---after all, this is Bushworld, where graverobbery is not only not a crime, but something to prevent other crimes from being prosecuted.

Daniel pointed me to the best post ever. Anything that combines fae with using MySpace to bust sleazy GOP pollsters is a contender for Ruler Of Teh Internets.

Speaking of GOP sleaze, check out the e-mail comments from the DHS' former favorite pedophile to his supposed "paramour." Fantastic stuff, this. You have to wonder if he got set up solely for speaking out of school. Something very fishy about this...

Do you dare enter the hidden chambers of the House of Chthon? Once you get past slobbering over the lady's impressive rack, note the familiar glyph shapes. Any of that look familiar to you? Man, I was just musing today on how great it is to be a fang fan lately...there's "Underworld: Evolution" and "Bloodrayne" on DVD, and Blade has a new TV series AND comic book coming out. Good times for the hemoglobin-deprived.

Don't worry...if vampires aren't your thing, you can always enjoy the fruits of the zombie bidding war between Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio. Now, if this was a movie where the two of them played zombies. I might actually see it. It's not like either of them has no experience with sleepwalking through a film before. :)
