to look at this comment carefully.

This, right here, is the past. Fear. Racism. Hatred. And cowardice especially--the cowardice of a wastrel who desn't even have the balls to put their name behind these words.

I won't delete it. I want everyone to see it for what it is, and go and do your part to fight against it. Because this is what we have to look forward to if the moment is lost.

So let's not lose.

The country needs a lot more cultural readjusting before we can get to that point. But we will. Or, more likely, we'll have evolved to new ideologies that render the old divisions irrelevant. This probably just means we'll be replacing them with new divisions, but progress is progress. :)

Martin - if you've logged the ISP address of Mr./Ms. Anonymous ... and need some help tracking them down, let me know.

In more important news, thanks for another great post and perspective on the issues.

They're nothing. Nobody. They're the past. We're the future. Fuck 'em. Let's go make history.

That's a better mindset, absolutely.

(I have a little Prop. 8/LDS/Pentecostal fatigue going ... my apologies. ;-))

Hey Boz..are you planning to watch the halftime show during the football game tonight? If you are, do you expect this to be a "one last ditch effort" for both sides?

It's hard to say how much effect it'll have at this point. I keep hearing about all of these mysterious undecideds who will swing the election, so maybe whatever Obama or McCain says will settle it for them.

Unless McCain drops some enormous "November Surprise" in his spot, I can't see him saying anything that'll convince people that aren't already on his side. Same for Obama, really. The lines have been drawn.

i'm one of those mysterious undecideds. if you look @ my lj, I fully expect to have no decision by the time I walk into the booth tomorrow. it's damned frustrating too.

Well, you're the third one I've met. ;)

This is a very serious decision you have in front of you, Shelli, and not one to be taken lightly. If you're amenable, I'll happily do what I can to persuade you to vote Obama. ;)

My biggest heartache during this whole thing is that practically no effort has been made to address my personal pet peeve/platform topic:

Congressional reform. All of it. The whole smash, top to bottom.

In all the campaign rhetoric, the closest I've heard is stuff along the lines of "I'll fight pork" or "I'll reject special interests". To me, that's not really a complete solution to the overall problem.

It's not the President's Constitutional mandate to do anything about Congress, no matter what the theory of the Unitary Executive says.

Congress can only be reformed by congressmen. Isn't that a hoot.

Exactly. Label me frustrated.

The post I crafted for pyxiwulf contains an additional discussion of and link to Obama's ethics reform/transparency policies, including a link to discussing the "Google-gov" database he pushed for that enables people like us to track federal spending.

It's certainly not all that could be done, but it's a start.
