VPs hardly ever make a difference when it comes to winning an election so I will put that out front right away.

But I do think a more moderate Democrat could be a good thing for the ticket and one, like you said, plays up his strenghts.

I am still waiting for the dream team. It will never happen due to the arrogance of the people involved but could really united a fractuous party.

Can you define "more moderate" in this context? I find your comment confusing.

Hmmmm, it's hard for me to be too specific but it might be beneficial for Obama to have some pollster or whoever analyze where he is perceived to be too liberal and then partly chose a VP candidate who is more to the right in those areas.

I am a supporter and I want him to win so in my opinion if he tweaks his public image a bit to win, that's fine by me. The VP has no power once they are in office but they can nicely "round out" a candidate during the election.

Complaints about Webb's views on economic and business issues may be valid, but mentioning his opposition to women in the military is just plain ridiculous. That was 1979, f'chrissakes, when Wang was still #1 in word-processing and no one had ever heard of Mikhail Gorbachev. Let's stick to the present, shall we?

Another thing: at least Webb isn't (AFAIK) visibly in bed with loony theocrats like Rod Parsley or John Hagee. Also, he has a son in Iraq; so maybe he has a little more excuse than others not to keep up on the economic stuff.

That's not to say Webb would be the best running-mate for Obama, although he'd be a LOT better than Hillary. I'm thinking John Edwards myself. Or Colin Powell.

I don't know that it makes much of a difference, I mean here's a man (Obama) who campaigns on knuckling under to the hard right in this country- Jim Webb would be a logical extension to that promise.

I'm really not sure what Obama promises to deliver except a stop to the rabid insanity of the Worst President Ever tm, although putting an ottoman in office would have the same effect.
