Really good to see that your longterm links with the work in Africa are still bearing fruit. Are things generally improving in Tanzania or are drought and other issues holding things back still?
I think things are improving. The new president is a complete hardnut but he is cracking down on corruption, which will help. I see more cars and houses with electricity, which means people are becoming wealthier. However most of the people I work with are elderly and/or disabled - and they struggle in every society in the world. Their lives are as desperate as they have ever been.
Actually, now I think a little more into it, one way that their lives have improved is by the improved road network - this means goods can get transported around much more quickly and cheaply, which has resulted in less of a fluctuation in food prices, and that is a big positive for poor people.
