Most people mark Canada Day by going to a barbecue or some other outdoorsy-type event. What did I do? I built an igloo in my kitchen. And had enough snow left over for a short snowball fight (more of a skirmish, I suppose

Hmmm... If your fridge is that old, then I would suggest splurging on a one of those new ones (you do have a job now). You know, where like 2/3rds is a fridge and the other third is a freezer, and there is the ice/water dispenser in the door. Or a fridge which is at least only as old as the Renaissance.
Mount Allison University holds Convocation - oh, wait, that's June.
Seriously I'm always amazed by how *early* and decisively spring comes in Toronto, compared to the Maritimes; and I've lived here for about fifteen years now.
Just trying to make the place a little nicer in case I have company some time soon. ;)
I was going to do laundry today too, but I ran out of detergent after the second load. It's on tomorrow's To Do List. I might organize the solarium too, and put all of the Gaylaxicon stuff that's been in boxes in my dining room for the past year out there. Then I just have to get rid of about 200 old VHS tapes and take several cases of empties back to the beer store (though I expect it will be closed tomorrow, and I have to do that in several trips anyway).
Yeah, so, I know you rent and you won't be getting a whole new fridge, but what about just getting a freezer? We had the exact same sort of fridge as you when we lived in that grotty little Beaches basement apartment, so I *know* where you're coming from! My weapon of choice was a big mofo screwdriver and a bucket of hot water. HATED doing that. If you have the room, do consider investing in a freezer. It can follow you if you rent a new abode.
I'm not sure where I'd put it, to be honest. About the only place I can think of where it would fit would be in the dining room, on the opposite side of the wall from the stove.
My living room and bedroom are nice and big, but the kitchen could have stood to be a bit bigger when they were designing this building.
Though the 5.5 cubic foot one would probably fit into that space in the dining room. (It would be nice if they gave the actual dimensions rather than just the volume.) I'll have to look into it - thanks!

That would certainly be a step up.

This whole entry cracked me up. I think the use of the word "spelunking" was what really tossed me over the edge.
I wish you had taken pictures of the whole process. The before and after... and of course, you weilding all of your "implements of destruction."

Why, thank you. My work here is done. :)

"Spelunking" is one of those inherently funny words, I find. Like "weasel," "kumquat," "succotash" and "mukluk."

That occurred to me after I was past the halfway point. :(
