Top 5 Reasons to Watch TV

Jan 09, 2006 19:22

Actually, it should be top 5 shows to download off BitTorrent, since some of them aren't being shown here yet.  I just realized I spend so much of my free time firegazing watching all this tee-vee (like Sunday afternoons when I should be grabbing sleep) that I need to propagate my addiction so that other people can share in my misery.

(And yes, I'm ( Read more... )

Scrubs is great too. Haven't tried Grey's Anatomy yet though, sounds soap opera-ish when I hear people describe it.

Have you seen Rome episodes un-cut? Wooh. HBOAsia sucks.

"Have you seen Rome episodes un-cut? Wooh. HBOAsia sucks"

Of course I have, why do you think I liked it in the first place? :D

Yeah, I've seen the un-cut Rome episodes with Cleopatra. Very un-English. I wonder if the BBC allowed the showing.

Battlestar Galactica rocks like Plymouth, though a bit more campish than the more cerebral Star Trek: TNG and all its spin-offs (except for Enterprise! Damn Enterprise!).

Oh, and suprisingly, the Buffy-Angel series does have its wonder moments. It's the cast that annoys me.

I'm suprised you didn't include any sitcoms like Who's Line is it Anyway special episodes, like the one with Robin Williams. Ah well...:D

I haven't been watching a lot of sitcoms lately. Never claimed this list was definitive anyway, I can make one for comedies later on when I'm bored. :)

I hear Rome gets shown uncut in all other regions except Asia. Wow.

And how can BSG be CAMPY?! That show is grim as hell. Rape of prisoners? Nuclear holocaust? Martial law and a military coup? Seriously.

Dude, campish compared to Star Trek. And all those things you mentioned are also in Babylon 5, with the favourable addition of genocide.

How is it that we can never watch the full versions of cool (and historical) shows like Rome? God, it's one of those times when I want to disown the Philippines from the region. Sheesh.

I actually think we can't watch the uncut versions because of other countries in the region (i.e. prudish Singapore and neo-Islamist Malaysia). After all, they have more (legal) cable subscribers than the Philippines.

Well Babylon 5 set the tone for dark sci-fi. As opposed to Star Trek, which has gotten ridiculously bad and self-involved.

I don't watch enough TV but your top 5 shows are about a ridiculous prison premise, a show which builds up suspense by wondering who to kill off next and 2 techies. Rrrrright. :P

High Fidelity rocks: both the movie and the book. And Ananda Project has amazing chill-out stuff - you should try to see if you can get hold of their "Cascades of Colour". Very nice.

Song, in case you're reading this -

I would think you'd enjoy a show about two techies, being Singaporean and all. :P

Will look for Cascades of Colour. I'm actually fixated on Late Night Alumni now.

Yes I'm actually reading your comments too. I'm Singaporean but I don't study at THE technology university in Singapore (often cited by Singaporeans as being located in Malaysia, really). Don't mix me up with the short one (RK, in case you're reading this, apologies and yes, it's you I'm talking about).

Why don't people watch Arrested Development?!?!?!?

THE technological university in Singapore is cited as being located in Malaysia? Is this another quirky Singaporean joke I'm not getting?

I watched a couple of episodes of Arrested Development before and I'll be honest, I didn't think it was anything special.
