Okay, so it's a national ID card that I would have to use to do anything? LIke buy anything? It doesn't really effect me, since all they'll find out is that I have no money and like nachos, but it still kinda pisses me off.
First of all, can I see some source documentation please? All you did was link to your little LJ rant and, let's face it, LiveJournal isn't exactly the Associated Press. Second, yeah, the RealID shit is scary. Guess what though, the US is ALREADY scary. Try getting a passport and going through customs when you're a transexual, THAT is a pain in the fucking ass. RealID just makes it that much more complicated for everyone else as well.
Besides, most of the information they'll be looking for they already have access too anyway. Only thing a national ID (which isn't a big deal on it's own, plenty of countries have national ID cards) will do is make it easier to scan through all at once.
Main difference being that you don't usually have to show your SS card around when you buy beer or something. Still a lot of hype over things that have essentially already happened, but what can you expect from people who think Fox shows real news?
If you think that the government spying on you is something new and revolutionary, then wake up. The NSA has spy satellites which can read the newspaper over your shoulder from orbit. The FBI is rumored to have filtering software which sifts through all phone and data traffic looking for key words and phrases (such as "bomb", "gay marriage", and "Nader for president"). The USA Patriot Act gives the DOJ near carte-blanche to implement wire-taps without court approval. Most of this technology has been around since the Cold War. So nothing new at all. Plus, what is our SSN other than a national ID number?
I don't think its new but still the patriot act is anything but the fucking patriot act its the god damn communists act. Im not saying that it's new at all but it's another thing added onto
