I also had this contest forwarded to me. I have the same opinion on this and inaugurated my blog with my take on it. I am glad that I'm not the only freelancer who feels this way. I am deeply offended when people ask me to work for free. I volunteer and have no problem giving design, but I do so at MY choosing.

brandon - i love your poster for this and hope similarly minded freelancers are flooding them with clever takes on this (i admire how you actually put time into your poster! i threw mine together hastily) just the other day i blogged about this! today i was saw the link to the contest on a good friend's twitter page & couldn't believe my eyes. i think crowd sourcing is pretty loathsome on its own, but coupled with the theme of the poster's purpose itself? it's unbelievable.
Well this just takes the cake. My husband does animation and illustration and it's mind blowing seeing the amount of crowd sourcing that goes around these days not to mention the responses you get from people when you bring up the points that you did. But it especially sucks that it's for supporting small businesses.
I love this! I am looking for a job now and even though I am looking for jobs in the marketing field, I can't tell you how many times I have been asked to "look at XYZ's company's website or come up with a marketing plan" as part of the interview process. Basically, work for free. It's so frustrating.
