the thing about the closed community... i love this comm, i want it to be as big as possible, but thing is - even if we did have extra mods the ot posts might still be there... deleting them is not a problem but i want to try to just... make it less appealing? haha.
if you want to join to post a picture of 70-year-olds, you can still do it if i've checked your journal, yeah, but i think a lot of spammers will think it's too much hassle and they'll just go to spam another community, if they really want to?
maybe that's a very naive thing to think, but i don't really know if getting more mods will make it better? superba the same ideas of the comm - we know exactly how we want it to be, and if we have three other mods, it might turn into a bit of a mess? now, with two mods and (maybe) a closed community, i think we can handle it

i really appreciate you taking the time to comment, hehe. i don't really know what to do with this situation - of course i want to community to be a big happy place (heh) but i want to have some control over it.
turning this comm into a closed community wouldn't be because i want to stop being a mod or letting the place run itself - i enjoy being a mod and i don't mind the off-topic posts - i delete them and it's done with, but the plus of a closed comm, is that we can at least control the spam (the naked 70-year-olds spam, that is)
the only thing we're worried about with this is that we might turn into some of the other communities out there, with their totalitarian-moderators... we want it to be a good community but to make it a good community... making a closed community would be best in my opinion.
I'm sorry, I really don't know what to answer. I've been lucky enough to have missed most of the nastier posts, so I'm a bit indifferent to it. But I think you guys are doing an amazing job moderating this community, and it would be unfair for you to have to go to so much trouble just because of a few stupid people.
i think making it a closed community really could work - once it's closed, and a bit of time goes by, we'll (hopefully!) be able to control the really nasty spam, and it will just make the community nicer... most posts are open to everyone, so you can always look at them, and hopefully people won't be scared off when they see it's a closed community, but for the members and everyone who wants to look at this community, it might be the best.
doing a mod post about this is more useful than doing a mod post whenever something "bad" happens - a closed community might be the thing, we just need to wait and see :)
That's very true. Making it a closed community does sound like a good idea, and if someone's too intimidated by it to join, they can still lurk and look at the wondeful pictures and just not post anything. That seems really fair. :)
