Jake stares after the retreating gunslinger and frowns.

He looks like something straight out of a Sergio Leone movie ....

And those eyes. He can't shake the feeling that he's seen them before.

He sighs and turns to the remaining group and the dog-creature on his bed.

"I think I'm at a bit of a loss ..." he says, and smiles a little.

Eddie's eyes are wide and horrified. Too much. This. is. too. much. He cradles his weeping wife (joy gives way to grief, ever and always, O Discordia) and looks away. He speaks to Will and Moiraine in a low voice. "Lady-sai... kid... I can't... please."

"Help him."

*A bare moment of staring at Jake in shock, while Jake and Roland looked at each other, and then his face relaxes and smooths over into the polite friendliness of a casual acquaintance.*

*gently* You've been sick, Jake. In a coma for a while.

These people all helped you get better.

They know my name, he thinks, looking at each in turn. And they seem to know who I am.

He looks around again.

"Where am I?"

For this is not New York, nor any place he has memory of.

*She has stood frozen in shock for a long moment while others spoke, sick with inner horror, as past experiences wash over her. Her voice is a whisper at first.*

Sa souvraya niende misain ye.

*Moiraine takes a deep breath, then glides a step forward, meeting Jake's glance. There is no visible emotion on her face, and her tone is serene and calm, although dark eyes search his for some recognition.*

What Will has said is true, Jake. You are in a place called Milliways. I am Moiraine Sedai.
