"We're just colleagues." It was a no. "I don't expect it."

She did not tend to avail herself of the power to change their opinions of her, these days. She was the hard-working Doctor Mizuno, and that was really all she needed to be, to them.

Ami carried a small pile of papers to review through the evening, though if Ishida was here, she suspected she might have to put them off awhile. She set them down nearby, and slipped off her own shoes as she stepped inside.

"Mm. A pity, but it's their loss, not taking the time or making the effort to get to know you better," he commented.

He had been hoping to be able to take her out to dinner as well-- but if she has work to do tonight, he'll try not to keep her too long.

"Ah-- Well, in any case, you won't go without anything in the way of presents, today--" as he spoke, he withdrew a long box from the bag, the kind clothes are often neatly folded in at store, though it happens to be immaculately wrapped in silver wrapping paper, with a blue silk ribbon, expertly tied into a bow.

"For you. Happy birthday, Ami-chan."

She didn't feel like discussing it, apparently. Instead, she went straight for the gift; greedy.

She turned it over briefly in her hands, examining it and using the size and weight to make a guess about the contents. Then she indulged herself, and tugged the ribbon to loosen the bow before neatly slitting open the paper.

Ishida wouldn't be surprised if she guessed the contents easily, but nevertheless hoped to see her reaction to what lay inside. He had been working on it for weeks, after all: a flawless blue kimono with a white snowflake pattern-- and, if Ami looks closely, she'll notice that no two Of the meticulously sewn snowflakes are the same, each unique--and each hiding in plain sight the astrological symbol of Mercury.
