I found it sort of strange that Dean was suddenly so naive about sex and suddenly had to have things spelled out to him. And the whole conversation between him and Portia about him wondering if she was in her human or dog form while she and James were intimate shouldn't have even made it into the final draft of the script let alone in the episode. It's all fine and dandy if that kind of humor was part of SPN, but it's not. Arrgghghhh, continuity!
I knew they weren't part of the usual suspects in the writers room, their names sounded familiar.
None of these is in my list of favorites, but they are a mixed bag.
Ditto.

That would explain why they've penned so few episodes over such a long time. I hate to scream nepotism, but ... I guess I just did. ;) But seriously, I had issues with the writing that went way beyond just the inappropriate jokes and other general weird choices (which is just my opinion really). The big thing was all the telling instead of showing. Portia especially had a lot of awkward, expository dialogue. However, I thought the actress did a good job of delivering it.
I loved the opening banter and the dog-to-girl appearance. It unfortunately went downhill from there. It was definitely a let down after last weeks stellar episode.

And maybe that's why I was so disappointed with this episode. I thought we'd finally found our footing this season and the momentum was building beautifully--it felt like the story was actually moving forward instead of just twisting around itself.
This episode was actually supposed to air before last episode, but the script wasn't ready. So maybe a different air date would've been more forgiving? I don't know....
I didn't realize it was supposed to air before last week's episode. That actually makes sense, because I agree, it felt as though we lost all we had gained in "Trial and Error". Last week Sam described Dean as a genius (as we all know he is), yet this week he didn't know what a witch's familiar was? I just really hated how awkwardly they portrayed him throughout the entire episode. Hopefully next week will put us back on track.

So that gives you an idea about what they have done on Supernatural. None of these is in my list of favorites, but they are a mixed bag.
