The potential for more Winchester history really jazzes me. One of my main and bitter beefs about the handling of the Campbell clan in S6 was the sheer *waste* of the potential. I had been so excited about the history of the Campbells, and then they are all douches who get killed off within the first half of the season.
So yay! for another go at it with the Winchester side. :)

Exactly. I, too, was so excited about Samuel and co. It could've been played so many interesting ways and really opened up the SPN universe, esp. being that Samuel was an established hunter who could've had so many resources and old hunter tricks up his sleeve. Plus, he managed to hunt and maintain a family and, from what we saw, a house and a semi-stable existence--something that would've been a grand lesson for Sam and Dean. I understand that SPN is premised on Sam and Dean against all else, but a part of me really wants for them to have something beyond themselves and not to always feel so desolate and alone. I don't really understand why establishing a more close-knit community around Sam and Dean can't mean that they're not still exclusive to each other
( ... )
Anyway, I think what I'm mostly excited about (and very much relieved by) is that it's as if Show literally got taken off of life support and someone swooped in and breathed in two huge lungfuls of fresh air.
I can understand that, actually, because while I had a number of eye rolls about the plot (which, I'm going to try and write about) it did feel exactly like that, like "Wow, this actually seemed like the old show for a moment"
Excellent. I hope you find time to do this. I've missed SPN meta.

Ha. A very sad statement considering it has taken half of S8 to elicit such feelings. I don't know what the first half of this season was, but it sure didn't feel familiar.
