Something different: I have no idea who this girl is (or was), but she was likely a member of a Chicago family (probably Polish) and the photo dates to the mid-thirties, I would guess. It's one of hundreds I have collected from flea markets and antique stores. At some point, family keepsakes become dispensible, but this image lives on and brings me ( Read more... )

Wow, that's a beautiful picture. I too love looking through old photographs at flea markets and antique stores. My favorite is when there's something written on the back like a date and location or a note to someone.

if you like stuff that's written you'd like my post card collection. i have some dating back to the beginning of the 20th century when a popular custom was sending "postals" of a family pic (or individual shot) which was actually a tintype and served to update a friend or relative with a note on the back. there was no other way to"stay in touch" at that time.

That's rad. Chad found a written in Valentines Day card from the 50's or so at a estate sale. It sits over our fireplace. I can't throw anything away, I'm sure someday someone's going to go through my stuff and wonder who the hell I was.

Indeed, it is beautiful.

When I was in Scotland I came across an old antique shop that had baskets full of old postcards and pictures from 1890's to 1950's.
They were so unbelievably beautiful.
I bought a bunch of post-cards, but regret not having picked up any photos.

em, i have thousands (literally) of postcards dating from the 1890s to 1970s. mostly domestic, some foreign. for example i have many hundreds of motels alone. airline-related, many more hundreds. anyway, for a nice person like you, who would appreciate it, i would happily part with some (lotsa duplicates). trouble is, you'd really have to be here to sort through em all i think. but i'll send ya a few b4 u leave SF just to wet yer whistle. see? now you have even more cause to come visit me sometime! mr. T.
