"I want a man who is my master!"

I love old Romance and "good girl" comics. Adore them. All my best friends know that. At any given comic convention, after I've hunted down the porn comics and 70s and 80s undergrounds, the next thing is to wheel and deal for some old Romance comics. I can't get enough ( Read more... )

Oh, and you're right about the France bit -- they mention that the eatery they are in has a "Parisian" theme!

You're talking about "Romance without Tears" and "Confessions, Romances, Secrets and Temptations" I think, right? yeah, pretty good stuff. I also have "Rhymes with Lust".

The era I'm really into though is the later stuff. 1960s and 70s. Marvel, DC, and Charleton's mostly. I gobble that shit up like a maniac.

It probably also comes from them HAVING to make comics for girls. I would imagine when a lot of these guys signed up to make comics they didn't think they'd be drawing Lois Lane or romance comics. I imagine them as bitter dorks who want to put Women in their place.

I had a teacher in college who drew Archie comics for years and years he used to go on and on and on about how Bettie and Veronica are different women and anyone who draw them the same is a moron. Bettie has bigger tits and is an idiot, Veronica is sultry and has bedroom eyes...apparenlty.

Can't say for sure about other artists, but I know John Romita in particular really enjoyed his time drawing romance comics, as did Alex Toth. They both spoke in their later years about how the genre allowed for different visual dynamics and storytelling than they had doing superhero titles.

Also, I bet it was fun getting to draw sexy girls!

Was that written by the creator of 'Wonder Woman'?
And, she's got a point. Osgood seems like a pussy, push-over, meal-ticket.

Ahhh! Thank you so much for posting the video! As a little kid, I watched the Fresh Prince of Bel Air - Dance Contest scene on TV and I always wondered what the name of the song that was playing. And now I know thanks to you! "Apache"!

The one in Fresh Prince was, I believe, by the Sugarhill Gang. Great classic rap.
