How exciting! If I were a bit more footloose, I'd consider going for my PhD in the UK. There's an age prejudice here in the US, or so I hear, so the funding would be the same. For me, most likely zilch. So where are you applying?
We eloped. A long time ago and eight offspring ago. Just sayin'.
Yeah, going overseas is pretty uprooting. It's a scary prospect now without children, so I can't imagine trying it with a family. My parents were five years older than me, with a newborn, when they moved to the States. You would have the opportunity to get money for a PhD because there are the Overseas Research Scholarships (ORSAS) and things like the Gates Millennium Scholarships and the Chevening Scholarhsips to help off-set the costs for US students. Since I'm a UK non-resident citizen, I miss out on all of it!
I'm applying to the University of Bradford, University of Durham, University of Sheffield, and University of Southampton. Might add one more, but that's the current list.
If only the husband didn't have to work. The youngest four kids (the only minors I have left!) would transplant there in a heartbeat.
I'm excited for you and hope you find the situation you're looking for.
The only problem with our elopement was that our friends were mad at us...but only for a while. We threw many nice parties afterwards and they forgave us.

Combine a trip to visit us with an elopement! It'll be swell! (Plus we could attend the elopement too :-) )
I'm sorry that school looks to be so expensive. I think grad school being expensive is generally just a fact of life...true, you can get stipends for some fields, but those usually require 60-hour work weeks.

guests at the elopement defeats the point! Well, not exactly, and I would be sad not to have any friends or relatives at such an event. Still, once you start adding people it's hard to stop...
Grad school is weird. Sometimes you get paid for it, and sometimes you spend the rest of your life paying it back. I'm definitely not going to get a PhD if someone else isn't picking up the tab, but I think the Masters will be well worth the investment.
Oooh, melikes recipes! I will have to try the Winter Salad, also, you should post any pointers you have for making RICWtTBiWFMaNFF-fSM,YI :)
You might check around for funding, too. There are scholarships for almost everything, perhaps there is one for people exactly in your situation?
AAAND, what better way to elope than to be married by a Sea Captain!?! (Note:apptly this type of marriage consists of slightly more than grabbing the nearest 'Old Salt').

Set a gallon of milk on low heat. When the milk is almost boiling, add the following ingredients: loose leaf tea (1 cup or more for a gallon of milk) 1 large piece of ginger root, minced 2 tablespoon cinnamon 1 teaspoon mace 1 teaspoon cloves 1 tablespoon nutmeg 10 whole cardamom pods (ground cardamon tends to be bitter and is not recommended)
I probably use more spices than this, so taste-test as you go to make sure, and feel free to add more things. Chili powder isn't "kosher," but I bet it would taste wonderful. Keep mixture at a low rolling boil until the mixture has a brown or reddish tint from the tea. Keep taste-testing until you have its desired strength (remember, you can always cut it with milk later, so it's better to have it strong). Take chai off the burner and pour the mixture through a strainer to catch the tea grounds and ginger pieces. Stir in honey or sugar to bring out the flavors.

Yeah, I bet Molly and Lillian would kill me if we eloped too. I promised them Doc Martens as bridesmaids' gifts long ago, before the reality of archaeologist wages set in...
