So last night I ended up in the pub with an Everton-supporting Mancunian. I'M SO CONFUSED.

Also, I went to see The Golden Compass on Sunday (which I'm still referring to as Northern Lights in my head). It was very decent, though a bit... po-faced. I don't think there was one joke in the film, and the only time I heard the audience respond was when ( Read more... )

It wasn't so odd really. He was very definitely Manc, but his family are all from Liverpool, so he's inherited Everton as his football team. The same thing happened to my dad once; he met a Scouser who supported United. Football teams in this country tend to be something you inherit, not something you choose. =)

We bonded over Phil Neville and hating Liverpool, anyway, so it wasn't so bad. =D Also he wasn't bad to look at, football team be damned.

I've read the books (and have to see the film sometime soon, because I've been waiting for it to come out for - ages, really) when I was 12 or 13 and kind of decided afterwards that my cat Louis should be my dæmon and that we should not be seperated ever again. This lasted for about five minutes; then Louis woke up. The End. :(
- Having a dæmon still fascinates me, though :)

I also remember that the ending left me sitting on my bed with 'wtf' clearly written across my face - did they keep the whole Mrs Coulter-and-Lord-Asriel thing? o_o

That's very cute. :)

Neh, it was only the first book, so they've not reached the Coulter-and-Asriel thing yet.

No Mrs Coulter-and-Asriel love story?! :D I mean, you know how Lyra sees them together at the end of book one (I think it was book one, sometimes it just sort of blurs into each other)? That put me off a little bit, to be honest :(
