If there is a weakness in this novel it is that Eva stayed with Franklin: I don't understand why an intelligent, ambitious, successful woman would stay with such a narrowminded and oblivious man.
Because she would've had to cope with Kevin on her own! lol (Would Franklin have wanted custody of him? I bet not.)
That is a point! I know I wouldn't want to be alone with him. Though I don't think Franklin would have said no to custody - he's not against it later in the book, after all, after the incident with the drama teacher when Eva says exactly what she thinks about their son.
I read it 4 years ago so many of the details are fuzzy now (except for the gory ones... those stayed with me, unfortunately). But I did enjoy it, the way I enjoy intelligent, daring novels with excellent writing and a scene that haunts me for weeks, like, say The White Hotel. But I wouldn't call it "pleasure reading".
I just finished Lionel Shriver's novel "The Post-Birthday World" and that one truly was a pleasure to read. Highly recommended.

Also I'm very glad to hear We Need to Talk About Kevin is good, I was wondering.
(This is a belated comment to say that I won't be online tonight! And I am avoiding twitter because I want to be unspoiled.)
