Bloggy bits: Writing, Reading and Home Life

Home Life
I've been a bad blogger. Between the Red Sox in the playoffs, work-work, writing-work, and mommy-work, I haven't had much time for anything extracurricular...including sleep.

I'm so tired, I'm about ready to write odes to naps, sonnets to slumber. If I don't fall into a narcoleptic coma on the keyboard, that is.

BUT, I have a WEEK off from ( Read more... )

writing, reading

1. re: Bedtime Bootcamp.
Have you started a "ritual" yet? When Patoot was all newborn-y, we were just winging it. We'd feed her when she was hungry and let her sleep when she was sleepy. And held her the rest of the time. But starting a bedtime ritual really helps wee ones get ready for bedtime (aka, a Mom's Best Friend). We have got it nailed down to approx. an hour of pre-bedtime prep. Relaxing bath, soothing books, a song or two, then a hasty retreat. Until recently (damn you, Big Girl Bed!) this ritual has worked pretty flawlessly.

2. Can't wait to see Boy Book #1's notebook!

3. Also: could I please borrow the Wolf Girl book? Sunday, perhaps? :)

That bedtime ritual is so familiar--we did that for years and I've noticed BD, whenever she is home from college, always wants to have a long soak in the tub the first night she's home.

BD's dad, HH, worked evenings when she was little, so those early am wake-ups were no good. I was soooo happy when she was old enough for me to give her a picture of a clock, with the hands pointing to 7 am, and tell her that when the picture and her clock matched, then she could come and wake us up. But that didn't happen until the preschool years.

The Ritual is what we need to start. Pronto. Tomorrow night, as a mater of fact.

Sadness--I don't have Wolf Girl book home with me, but I will get it to you!

Was one of the short stories in St. Lucy's published in the New Yorker, or some other similar mag? Because I remember that title and I remember enjoying it. I'll have to look for it again.

Meanwhile--go Sox! At least the next round will be played in the same time zone.

Yes--Olivia's something-something was pubbed the New Yorker debut fiction issue. It's wicked good.

So glad the Sox are in our time zone, esp. because my husband will be at the games.
