Welcome, Brian.

Your best bet for meeting people while riding may be the Charles River Wheelmen. They run a bunch of different rides every month for riders of varying levels of fitness. It might be a good way to both meet people and get a feel for the lay of the local land.

You have arrived here from the South just around the time when many people stop bicycling for a few months. If you don't get good replies now, try again around mid-March or early April.

I have to say I had a really negative experience on the one Charles River Wheelmen ride I was on -- got stranded at the top of the mountain with an unrideable bike and no cell signal (this was theoretically a supported ride), my friend was unable to find any help from CRW because the checkpoints had packed up and gone home, and I had to hitchhike. Yeah, young woman hitching fifty miles with two strange men, gotta love it. So anyway, I wouldn't suggest doing long rides with CRW unless you are fast. (I can ride a long way, but I can't do it fast, and they weren't prepared to support that ( ... )

The Quad Cycles weekend rides are still going on, Saturday and Sunday at 9:30; they don't leave anyone behind if you start with them, and they'll continue through the winter every week. (Blizzard cancels.)

Thirded. Good bunch of domesticated animals on the QC rides. And probably more of me next spring, now that my commute's dropped from 28 miles/day to 4.

And then check out the Ciclismo Classico Europe tours, which seem to be themed around "see picturesque local culture; also, if you have been biking all day, you are officially allowed to eat as much gelato as you want." *drool* I have to go on one of those someday.

I'm down. I ride almost every day and I'm always looking for people to ride with. I race mountain bikes and cross so if you want to ride, comment here and we'll set it up.

i'm down. since i do temp work, my schedule is fairly sporadic, but it looks like the rest of this week i'm free. keep in mind, however, that i haven't ridden much at all this fall, and i've become soft. if you want, email me at theheartarmed#yahoo.com and we can coordinate schedules.
