Aaaaand will relinquish it because hey not everyone wants to tl;dr about rp like I do (read: not as much as a nerd as I am) S-So while working on stuff for Seth it was brought quite sharply to my attention that I am a srs bznz nerd about plotting and researching on things for my characters. Even for stuff that I eventually never use, I uh actually ( Read more... )

what a nerd, rp, random acts of faggotry, read or die, the tl;dr way of life

Typically, there is a lot of canon referencing that refreshes my memory of them, but I am a research nerd as well. When I have the extra time, I like to read up in detail on the kinds of things they do, are interested in.

Ninety percent of the time, though, it's canon referencing and listening to particular music. Arturo is always ill nino, while Mukuro tends to be Seether, and Tsuna... well, Tsuna doesn't have any songs yet.

Sometimes, I also find I get 'into' the character a little more if I challenge/theorise about how they react to certain stimuli. Moods also play into it, as I am better at playing cruel characters when I feel particularly cruel.

S- Shini kind of clicks in an out of her voices, but if she needs to force a post on low motivation, it really depends on the character? For Byakuran, she runs the audio of his intro scene in the anime or the mashmallow song. For Isley, she used to listen to the Silent Hill song she had him keyworded to. For Nnoitra and Rolo, she has a couple audio cues in her mind that if she says under her breath, she can start any post for them off. For other arrancar or Jojo's characters, she just flicks through her fanart folder for them.

It also helps for her to be in the right mood. When Shini's feeling happy, assholes like Nnoitra are easiest to play. When she's in a vindicative mood or stressed, Byakuran's easiest to play.

I guess I just er ...jump into it XD ? I get so many tags in my inbox that I don't really have a lot of time to dwell on each response, which is why I typo epically, but hrm... so used to switching from (currently) eleven voices. It's just a matter of practice really @_@;; I lack the effort to put much precision, research, and care into RP ~_~;; I think it's the difference between mediocre RP-ers like me and Great RP-ers like most people I know XD;

Don't know. It just happens.

I will say, though: When it's hard to get into character, sometimes music helps. I blasted a very Raimei-ish song nonstop during the 4 hours I wrote my CFUD app.

Even now, when I feel myself slip, it helps.

Srs bznz nerd as well. Epic amounts of research, and analyzing random parts of the canon. It helps if I know something about the character's past or what he/she knows/loves/does, and then I read up on it. Like for Chiaki, I refreshed with my three books of music theory, then listened to classical music and broke lots of things down into sections. For Sebastian, etiquette books, cook books, research as I go. And Ginko (who's in my head right now though I'm not playing him anywhere), study-up on Japanese mythology and bizarre spiritual theory.

Toshi's the only character I really leap in and out of possibly because I relate to him far too well. And for everyone I'll make up things about their past, build my own canon, construct though processes...yeah. That's why I refuse to play characters who are too freaky, like Amamiya/Nishizono/Insert-his-other-5-personas-here from MPD Psycho, 'cause I don't want srs bznz with them T__T
