I know I'm outmatched here because I haven't been tracking the story to the level of detail you have and I respect your opinions a great deal, but I have to say that the onus for safety, civility and responsibility in modern society must always fall on the person with the weapon.
Those who carry legally have a responsibility to be properly trained and know when to use their weapons and when to show restraint.
I realize that the media is already trying this case, but the profile(s) I've heard on the shooter to this point have not made me feel comfortable with him as a responsible gun owner. I know a few good men who carry and their whole personas are different than this character as he is being portrayed. Not everyone, in modern society, is wired right to serve and protect and the young man was not on the shooter's property.
