Such a painful read! I liked how this brings the brothers closer and seeing Dean defend his brother. I do wonder why we didn't hear Mary's 'hear me out' speech - I'm kind of hoping that she's a double agent and she wants to bring BMoL down by getting close to them - but maybe I'm as separate as the boys for her to see this from their POV.
Excellent coda. I've just seen the ep today, so I'm behind on fic and reaction posts! I also noticed how Sam did most of the talking in that scene and Mary still focused on Dean's reactions. It's interesting. Does she just think Sam's the more level headed of the two and it's Dean reactions she has to worry about? Or does she just not feel a connection to Sam? Is he too different to the baby she remembers?
This is pretty harsh, but it's what I get from her, the way she's being written and/or played. And certainly what I'm getting from the brothers. FWIW, as much sympathy as I have for her, I'm on their side.
It's hard to watch...yet to me it makes sense for her character. And much better for her to be at odds with the boys than when Sam and Dean are fighting!
I give Jared so many props for his reading, his stumble over getting out "burnt feet." It really showed how badly Sam had been hurt at the MOL's hands and, further, how hurt he was at Mary's apparent disregard for that.
As she rationalizes, he has an unsettling recollection of himself justifying to Dean how demon blood was making exorcising demons so much easier …
I felt that, too. Sam must want to stop her, to get her to understand that sometimes what seems right has too big a price. I think this is a great look at what he's feeling in terms of Mom and family in general. If only they could sit down and talk it out together. I have my fingers crossed that she has some long-term plan about this that she can't/won't share.
I don't see her as having a secret plan...I see Mary as confused and disoriented and turning to hunting because that's what is familiar. And she doesn't have the perspective to see the BMoL as the danger they are--she's good at monster hunting but naive in human treachery.
But at least the boys are on the same page with each other...

It's fascinating character development--but hard to watch what Mary's behavior is doing to the boys!
Thanks for letting me know you felt this was good!
