So I decided to start a rewatch from near the end of season 6 in order to really appreciate season 9 when the dvds come out, and thought I'd post my random observations for discussion

I always forget how much I adore S6 until I start watching it. And then I remember that I adore S6. I honestly think that the latter half of S6 was the most in tune with one another Sam and Dean have ever been, in any season or pre-series part of their lives. And like, all things considered, they're pretty okay for a bit there. They're both pretty okay. And then it just all comes crashing down and omg. ;____; I love the way you put that in conversation with S7/8/9, too, because standing on the south end of S9 and the cusp of S10 that feeling is just that much stronger! Holy moly.
I started near the end of S6 because I don't have enough time to rewatch 4 whole seasons, but I know the end of 6 and the start of 7 are so intertwined that I had to at least watch the last part of 6. And it hurt so much to watch, especially that little interlude taking the 2 brothers to safety and the palpable feeling that both Sam and Dean were in complete agreement that they were doing the right thing and feeling like they were living up to the 'saving people' creed.
Really enjoyed this and your other recap post (beginning of 7). Just so interesting to note thing we might have missed in the first watch, the angst, the despair of watching our boys come apart. Thanks!!!!!
I have also been particularly struck by Dean's devastation once he decides, finally and forever, that those he loved so much were better off not knowing he existed. I, too, find "Let It Bleed" to be one of the most gut wrenching episodes ever...and think Dean kind of never came back from that. *sob* And Sam's wall...!
Dean was broken at the end of 'Swan Song'--and he never would have been completely fixed because of knowing where Sam was. But he had accepted it and found someone else that he could care about. Dean needs to give, and Lisa and Ben gave him an outlet AND returned the love.
So when he cut them out of his life, he was cutting out the piece of his heart that had healed him.
I keep saying I'm going to re-watch season 6 through to 9 before season 10 starts. I'm running out of time! Maybe I'll just read your rewatches instead.

That's it exactly...and since I've carved out the time to watch 3 seasons in 3 weeks, I thought I'd share my observations.
Thanks for taking time to read, it makes me happy to see that you find my thoughts of interest!
