OMFG. My essay that’s due next Monday? Is more complicated than I imagined.
STEP 1:
To begin, you need to choose a topic that interests you. Your choices are:
1. Biometric surveillance
2. The use of CCTV cameras
3. Online identity-related crime
STEP 2:
After choosing a topic from the list above, you must find a ‘real life’ incident related to your ( Read more... )

Thanks! I'm surprised and pleased I managed to get a Credit for it, given I didn't put much effort into it. (then again, reflective journals have always confused me, it's so wishy-washy and vague)

Aww, that's all right, I was just checking in case people knew of anything interesting and relevant, but I'm not expecting the flist to carry my weight for me. Hopefully I'll figure something out.

Interesting- and duh, who hasn't clicked to say they're old enough for something they ain't? *eyeroll* Like that's gonna stop kids!- but not really identity theft. They're passin themselves off as older, but it's not taking someone else's identity in particular, y'know? But thanks for the thought.

Some ideas from me: What about Biometric Surveillance? There's a bunch of hoo-hah going on about the airport body scans that take x-rays beneath your clothes. Most consider it a violation of privacy. Draw a comparison between books like 1984 and Farenehit 451 and how CCTV monitors the government's citizens, how it could easily step over the line and invade our privacy, keep track of our citizens, and monitor our everyday lives. How easy would it be to abuse that power?

I'M SO PROUD YOU'RE BUCKLING DOWN AND STUDYING!

THANK YOU, BB, I AM KIND OF WEIRDED OUT BY MY OWN DETERMINATION. I spent 17 hours over three days and managed to hammer out that first essay. Aaand now I have another three days to get this second essay done. ACK. I am hopeful that it will be easier- it's more 'practical', I don't have to wade through pages and pages of vague theory, it's rooted in RL and hopefully I can blather on long enough, lol.

I appreciate the encouragement, you're wonderful! *squish*

waffling on identity theft should be easy enough, hon *hugs you* look at it this way *brings on the fandom stuff* Was Will really chatting every night with Sigrid von Helstrom from Stockholm University or was he actually talking to some former Cabal agent just pretending to be the nice lady so s/he could get an in with the Sanctuary? ;p

Sociology sucks fetid swamp-water. Sorry you're lumbered with it. Then again, I would say that. My degree was in Psych...

*hugs you tight* hang in there and remember that homework, to a large degree, only sucks if you let it. you can do it *hug*

LOL. Reinforcing what a flister said about Psych people looking down on Soc. Considering I did both as my major (I think, IDEK), I think I can safely say I'm not biase when I say Soc is just torture.

Your fandom example! *g* Too bad I couldn't submit a fic on identity theft... :P

homework, to a large degree, only sucks if you let it.

That's the prob! I'll be like, 'I have several weeks to do it- but I don't want to be all miserable and wretched all that time! I'll do it when there's a week to go.' When that week comes, 'I don't want to be unhappy all this week! I'll do it the day before...' etc. etc. *headdesk*

Of course psychologists look down on sociologists. We respect the scientific method and they go "we can make statistics prove anything". How are we supposed to tolerate them? *shakes head in disgust*

school and homework would be infinitely less sucktastic if fanfic were acceptable to turn in *nods wisely*

You know those long fannish dissertations on how much Twilight sucks, Character X's characterization in the new episode sucks and makes no sense, how horrible Molly Weasley is as a human being, with references to each moment in canon that supports your point?

Those are essays. Except for a college essay you don't just make the reference, but actually cite where other people can find it (HP:SS p. 30n pp.5) for example.

Just do there what you do here and you'll ace. *nods nods* Hell, you could even post the rough draft as a journal entry.
