'The problem with livejournal:
We all think that we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other.
So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me.
Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about.
Ask away. Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you!'

Your entries should come with a warning *has dial-up* but it was worth the funnies! LOL Xena, FTW!
Firstly, me sowwy. I...I start capping and I can't stop. And then I am seized with the compulsion to SHARE WITH THE WORLD, bandwidth be damned. You can assume that any picspams I do are going to be massive. [So massive they typically take two posts due to LJ's irritating 'post too large' thing, gah]
Secondly, mwahaha! I hadn't realized how much love people still had for Xena! Such an old show and yet there's still a place for her in discussions today.
Do you d/l? I go to my public library to d/l episodes of shows like MerlinMentalist and CM because they're just too ( ... )

I don't watch Merlin, but I was surprised when I saw a picture of Guinevere. I don't have any problem with the change, it was just a bit shocking since the character has typically been depicted as a very pale, blue-eyed woman of some significance in society (as opposed to a maidservant).
Ah, Roswell. If only my memories of you weren't tainted by Tess and the last season! I did always love the intro credits though...and the song still makes me picture Max pointing towards the sky :p

Ooh, Xena/Caesar? Is sick and twisted and damn, I've gotta stop being suck a sucker for these kinds of ships. *lalalas* I'm not going there...Oh, hello, Xena/Ares shipper! Tell me, do we ever find out for sure that he's her father? Because I love them and it kills me that there could be incest happening. I know it's rife in Grecian mythology but me no likey.

See, that's what struck me as well! Not 'omg, they're so racist, how dare they show a black woman in a subservient role' but 'heyyy, man, look at how they are screwing with the legend big-time!' Maybe it's different if you grow up in certain parts of ( ... )

Btw, you'll understand if I ask where there's more where that came from? Probably not, since I'd've come across it by now, but I have to ask...

And I totally agree that there needs to be MORE black women on tv to play a whole range of parts. But of course the sad truth is, tv could use more women of any minority race/ethnicity in prominent roles as well.
Also, you've just reminded me how much I LOVED Roswell.

And that's why it's NOT racist, because that's not ALL she is.
YES. She has such rich characterization in the show, it definitely would be lacking without her because she plays such an important role in so many different relationships and influences major decisions by main characters and affects outcomes and- goddamnit, saying she's just a token black character or that she's just reinforcing the stereotype of 'inferior black maid' is unbelievably misguided and wrong, imo.
IMO they cast the perfect actress for a character that I adore, but I guess people will find fault in anything.
ITA, I believe Angel was the best person for the role- and she got it. That's got nothing to do with racism, isn't that EQUALITY, FFS?
tv could use more women of any minority race/ethnicity in prominent roles as well. Lol. True dat. Where is my Indian role model, damn it? :P 'tis funny, I hadn't ( ... )

Haha! I was gonna say that I'm still waiting for my Mexican role model but then I remembered that there was Jessica Alba in Dark Angel, and Edward James Olmos in BSG... but considering the high proportion of hispanics in the US and in particular California where many things are filmed, I'm always displeased to see how few of us are represented (and aren't cliches).
'tis funny, I hadn't realized til now that until Gwen, all the characters I fangirled are white.
Wow, I just realized just how few non white characters I fangirl as well, and I think Gwen is the only female. thinking back on it, all of my role models as a child were white as well. I'm glad more diversity is being injected into tv and movies now so that kids who aren't white can have someone to look up to that maybe looks like them, but obviously there's still a bit further to go if controversies like these over Gwen's skin color are popping up.

Okay, Mentalist, which is my new favorite show- focuses on a team at the California Bureau of Investigation. And all five main characters are white. Thinking back on their cases, there's hardly any black characters involved at all there either, really. Huh.
It's a shame that there was that controversy- might make writers LESS inclined to include black characters if they're gonna be savaged for such a wonderful portrayal of a respected, likable black woman. *eyeroll*
