shaun micallef appreciation post

WOULD YOU LET THIS GUY TIE YOU TO A WHEEL AND POUR BUTTER AND TOMATO SAUCE ALL OVER YOU?

NGL, I so would, lol. How did it take me until season 4 of Talking ‘Bout Your Generation to realize I’m in love with Shaun Micallef? I enjoyed the previous seasons, but I wasn’t all that into him until the first ep of s4. Now I keep swooning over everything he does.

LIKE IMPERSONATING SNAPE, OMG, HOW FLAWLESS IS THIS MAN?

He likes to dress up, which is always fun, and I thought he couldn’t outdo some of his past efforts (DOCTOR WHO, zomg, I love a man who honors sci-fi! And DOROTHY, lmao, I love a man who can poke fun at himself), BUT PLAYING SNAPE IS A WHOLE NEW LEVEL OF AWESOME THAT CANNOT BE EXCEEDED. And not only did he do it so well and make me literally cry with laughter, but he managed to do a parody of Snape that wasn’t mean-spirited and was genuinely amusing. As a fangirl, it bothers me when people do parodies that put Snape down, because I feel like canon treated him crappily enough, but this was ridiculously funny in a non-malicious way. (I included the whole game segment, but the Snape part is only about a minute, sadly)

Shaun really likes costumes; here’s a few I could find through google:

(the sci-fi ep was so cool- aside from the homage to DW, the generations were dressed up for Star Trek, Star Wars and Avatar. :D I was particularly impressed with the Na’vi costumes)

Benton Fraser from Due South…and I’m sure everyone recognizes the Joker. :P

NO WORDS. JUST. OMFG, LMAO. Work it, Shaun!

Don’t be fooled by this seemingly sweet moment- Josh has just been the victim of another ‘Trust Me’ and he’s hugging Shaun to smear all the white gunk on him, lol. (Josh is Shaun’s whipping boy, basically- although I’m pleased that two eps into s4, he’s not copping it as bad as usual; Gen Y actually won twice in a row!)

And ofc, the second image is Shaun dressed up as Josh in the ep where they all played each other. (for Charlie playing Amanda, and Amanda playing Shaun, that's here. The cross-dressing on this show, lol)

And now Shaun dresses up even when there isn’t a theme ep- he walked on wearing an outfit from Top Gun, claiming he thought it was a Tom Cruise night, but nobody else was dressed up, lol.

Anyway, back to the bondage episode, aka, when I first realized my undying love for him. TAYG, as he abbreviates the show (though it should be TBYG, since it’s Talking ’Bout Your Generation, but hey) has a segment where the three teams pick from four options, and one of them might be ‘Trust Me’, a game in which they can get tons of points, but the questions are so random and so hard that it’s GUARANTEED to end in humiliation for whichever person is tied up to whatever the instrument of torture is for that week. so funny, omg I wish there was a sporting chance for them to get the right answers, ‘coz there’s no suspense when you KNOW one of them is going to suffer a deluge of something messy, but still. I LAUGH EVERY TIME.

This ep’s ‘Trust Me’ was particularly good; Shaun was so giddy at the idea of tying Amanda up, lol.

And even though they’ve done tons of hilarious stuff in the past, I don’t recall ever seeing him lose it so completely. He’s usually the consummate professional, carrying on even when really funny things happen, but he just bent over laughing his head off for like a minute, which made me giggle even harder.

Semi-related question for any Sherlock fans: when I thought about why the idea of being tied up by Shaun appealed to me so much, it prompted a hazy recollection of reading a certain publication of The Hound of the Baskervilles which had a few illustrations…does this sound familiar to anyone? It was a proper book with occasional chapter art- and the one for the chapter in which the beautiful Miss Stapleton was tied to the post really fascinated me as a child, there was something about her vulnerability that captivated me. The closest illustration I can find is THIS, but it’s not at all what I remember- I def remember seeing her being restrained. Is this ringing any bells?

ETA. I'd totally forgotten what my moodtheme had for 'naughty' because I never used it up til now and ZOMG, SO APPROPRIATE. *flails madly* Alan Rickman in what I believe is Closetland with Madeline Stowe, who is very much unlike Victoria Grayson here (indeed, most of the roles I've seen her in have been the virtuous good girl roles, so Victoria was playing against type, albeit in the most delicious way possible)

Vidspam: for anyone who's interested, the full scene depicting Amanda's torture 'Trust Me' experience.
