I am not a shoe girl. I know it’s a cliché that girls love shoe shopping, but it bores me senseless. I still accepted mother’s invitation anyway, ‘coz I hardly see my mama these days, so I was willing to put up with shoes for her- and I am so glad I did! We stopped by Jay Jays, on the off chance that they might have the same shoes I bought from there months ago, and while I was browsing, look what I found! MAH VERY OWN SLYTHERIN T-SHIRT. :D
(I was so ecstatic at finding it that I went and bought mother’s shoes for her- they were only $15, but still, it’s the thought that counts, amirite?)
And I can accessorize with the Slytherin keyring I bought from Popcultcha! \o/ I also had a great convo with the chick at the counter. In RL, I am the shyest person alive, but bring up fandom and I'm a regular Chatty Cathy. We were talking for several minutes and she was just so fun, augh! I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE. (I literally had to force myself to walk away, I’d’ve spent ages talking to her otherwise, lol) /creeperness

SO TRUE. This perfectly captures why my ships mean so much to me. I love romance, but I believe I am incapable for pursuing it in RL (to the point where I chronically sabotage my relationship with anyone I might possibly develop feelings for to avoid dealing with it) and I invest so much of myself in ships to compensate. A beautifully written epic-length fic is so much more satisfying to me than attempting to make a relationship work IRL.
(I disagree with the part where it says that love for the ship equals love a real couple would feel for each other, though, because a) how do you measure that? And b) it just seems weird, tbh)
Just for fun: speaking of ships + unhealthy…it’s no secret my tastes tend to the bizarre at times. I lol’d at my twisted preferences as I compiled the list below. Anyone care to make a stab at the couples/fandoms involved? :P
(I haven’t deliberately tried to make them hard to guess, but quite a few are pairings I like the thought of, without the fandom to back them up *sob* so some might be obscure…)
1. He’s a serial killer. She’s the FBI agent trying to capture him. Hannibal/Clarice (guessed by lotrangel17)
2. He’s a psychic. She’s the…FBI agent trying to…er, capture him. Anyone getting déjà vu?
3. He’s escaped from an organization that kidnapped and experimented on him. She’s the agent sent to bring him back to be their lab rat. (yeah, I had a tough time trying to explain to mother how I could ship them, lol!) Jarod/Miss Parker (guessed by odakota_rose)
4. He kidnaps her brother and sends her on a dangerous quest to retrieve the boy. Sarah/Jareth from Labyrinth (guessed by araine)
5. His driving motivation in life is to kill her childhood sweetheart. And he’s also tried to make her walk the plank once. Wendy/Hook (guessed by araine)
6. He’s dead. (undead?) And he’s been hired to terrify her family into fleeing their house. Also, they end up married... *g* Lydia/Beetlejuice (guessed by mellamomuyloco)
7. He invaded her kingdom. She’s tried to kill him. And they also end up married…
8. He nearly killed her once. She’s used her powers to torture and nearly kill him.
9. He’s an assassin. She’s the mark.
10. He’s an assassin. She’s his pawn. Also, he’s holding her father hostage. Lisa/Jackson from Red Eye (guessed by revengent)
11. He’s an assassin…with a plan to kill a very important figure in human culture (ooh, that’s vague, but if I say who, it gives it away). She’s the grand-daughter of the embodiment of a…er…state of…being…and basically they try to kill each other every time they meet.
12. He’s a spy who became her right-hand man. Then he shot her and she basically lobotomized him.
I don’t ship this couple anymore, since the show broke my heart into tiny bitty bits, but here’s a bonus:
13. He threw her in the brig after disagreeing with a decision she made. Then she staged a breakout and took part of the fleet with her. (who’da thunk the show would make this pairing canon? Ha!) Roslin/Adama (guessed by rainbowpuzzle)
Side note: the same actress features in three of these ships. Go figure! I didn’t realize that til now, because I’ve fallen for each incarnation at various points in my life, and it’s only when I made this list that it hit me!
