They could just show these things and I would love it.
Me too! Me too!

And yes, the tension in Julie between adult and teenager is just perfect!

I know what you mean about Becky... and LOL that is so small-town appropriate, having to worry constantly that someone is going to shag her inappropriately! God, I hope they don't go there. However, I firmly believe that Billy is just that big a douche that he would do so. :( I don't want Billy to be a main character instead of Timmy. :(

I was sooo shippy of Vince/Jess at the end of last season, it was a total delight to see them together here! I can see how Vince is your one! *nods* I came to love Smash but he was too cocky for me, yeah (on rewatch I love him more because I see through it more). But I really do love Vince. Matt is definitely my 'special' one though. But I don't mind his absence so much when Vince is around, and I find Vince's plot very compelling.

I am also glad they didn't sugarcoat Tim being in jail, but I can't imagine them ever really doing so.

when the Coach just stopped and looked at her had so much resonance
Awww, I can only imagine! It was a moving scene anyway... I loved that it was the very ordinariness of the day that made it special to him. :)

It's so good to have the show back!!

Oh that's so exciting! What a wonderful show to get a break on--the acting is always so wonderful, I'm sure she'll be terrific!

The first episode of Season 5 was everything I expected it to be.

Dude, this episode fucking BLEW MY MIND. It was WAY better than I expected it to be, and this show has pretty much the highest expectations from me of any show I've ever watched. It's always amazing, and yet it was somehow AMAZINGER. Every scene was knocking it out of the park, and they managed to touch on so. many. things. without anything feeling rushed or fake. HOW DO THEY DO THAT. NO SERIOUSLY I WANT TO KNOW. I don't know who wrote this episode, but I want to hug them and give them whatever is in my wallet. THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT, PEOPLE.

p.s. I still miss Tyra

But I feel like that with every episode! I mean I always remember the show as being wonderful but when I'm actually watching it I always find myself thinking 'woah! this is even better than I remembered!' :) It is particularly impressive that they've come back so strongly in this, the fifth season though. So many shows flake out by this stage but NOTHING feels stale on this show. Nothing! :) I really wish more TV showed as much heart and sincerity as FNL does.

I will ALWAYS miss Tyra. Always. For ages I thought missing characters would hold me back from enjoying what we do get. I've learnt that's not the case--that missing and yet appreciating what's there can occur simultaneously. :)

Well, this show has done such a great job of building rich character relationships to the point that we can have an episode where not a lot of conflict really even happens -- it's just watching people go about their lives -- and it's still really good television. That's the mark of a well-executed character drama.

*is in denial about the fact that Landry was just on my screen for maybe the last time*

SHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. ♥

Yes! Absolutely! *is also in denial bubble re. Landry* Oh, another thing I love is that they trust their audience--they may not have the world's most enormous audience but they know the audience they do have is loyal and so they can build episodes like this, which draw on audience memory and associations so strongly. :)

TOTALLY FAVOURITE!! I rewatched 4x13 and then 5x01 and it did not fail to make me smile and cry and IT'S BACK AND I MISSED IT SO MUCH!!! Really wonderful season opener!

I am excited to see what Tami will do as counsellor at East Dillon and how the new kid will play out.

I already don'T like Billy as coach because I feel all he ever does is rely on his old fame and now Tim's, too. URGH. He reminds me of so many people who get really inflated with the slightest bit of power. But we will see, maybe he will improve and become a better person.

Maybe he will be great with Becky but I can see his wife being bitchy about it.

I AM EXCITED FOR THE SEASON!! :D

Ohh, nice idea to rewatch before starting on season 5!

Tami as counsellor at East Dillon will be so amazing! And oh yes, spot on re. Billy. He is SO smug and entitled, give him a sniff of encouragement and he takes a mile. :( But Coach does have a good effect on people... fingers crossed!

Yes, make us hate you less, Billy. Here's your chance! :D

I also can't wait what they are going to do with Tim. If he stays in Dillon or if he heads of to college or just somewhere else! I am so excited for yet dreading his storyline.

Haha, yeah, go on, Billy! ;) I am really massively hooked in to Tim's plot. Biting my nails badly!
