*SCREAMS WITH JOY* I might have to give in an buy DC comics again but only this series. Will it make sense by itself?

I don't think you need to read the main series to understand it although this does tie into the Futures End Booster Gold one shot. You probably can skip the FEBG issue as only the end really matters. Most of Covenvegance is about cities from different timelines fighting. This two parter is mainly about the Carter family and figuring out what to do. The city aspect does come into play since they kind of have to move but their more behind the scenes.

Any sign of them appearing after this event? Or are they just vanishing. I didn't see them in August other than Giffen's 3001 "It's my universe so I can resurrect JLI if I want to" thing.

Nothing has been announced yet although DC did have plans for a third Booster Gold series at one point. The pitch was for him to be losing his memory as he was forced to travel through time and finding out what was going on. DC rejected the idea but it's worth noting that there is/was interest.
