TED'S BACK!

May 21, 2014 20:14

I'm guessing the bulk of y'all are over on Tumblr not reading this post, but just in case anyone missed the news (and in hopes of getting a more coherent discussion going on than Tumblr's setup allows for) I figured I'd mention this here: after nine long years, Ted Kord is back, in Forever Evil #7. And he looks HILARIOUS:

I'm pretty excited that Ted's fashion sense is still absolutely abysmal (yellow tinted glasses that don't appear to have any arms? a t-shirt half tucked into belted slacks? good lord), but otherwise I'm pretty nervous. The art's not super great and he only has a few seconds of screentime, but DC hasn't exactly been great to characters I love, especially the more light-hearted ones

This pretty much sums up my feelings. Just because they can get his lack of fashion right doesn't make me any less worried about how he'll be written otherwise. DC's track record lately doesn't have me very hopeful.

DC has taken my usual mantra of 'hope for the best and expect the worst' and replaced it with 'hope for something that isn't actively painful and don't even bother expecting the worst because you can't even comprehend how bad it can be'

Yeah this. I really missed Ted and part of me is happy that his character is around ow - but DC has made so unhappy about other favorites of mine lately that I'm just not terribly hopeful that anything good will come of this.

Teeeed! TedTedTedTeddyTed! Yay!

Dear DC: You have one job. Don't kill Ted. That's it. If you succeed, we will work up to "don't torture Ted", followed by "write Ted well," and finally, "Blue and Gold team-up". Please note that the other jobs are in addition to the ones that came before them. "Don't kill Ted" will never not be your job.

I'm worried about the Kord Ind. logo. I know that secret identity has never been Ted's strong suit, but designing his costume/theme based on his company's logo is a bit much. Either Ted's not going to be the Blue Beetle or he's getting a major costume redesign. Or the artist didn't think this through at all.

I think it's just a wink-wink-nudge-nudge kinda thing. I don't see why or how Ted would be the Blue Beetle, since Jaime is.

His lack of nose though. :( I wonder where he's going to pop up next or are we going to have to wait until the next crossover event (which has to do with Booster apparently!) before we get any further info about baby!Ted, I'm interested to see whether he ends up taking the mantle at any point but at the same time deeply frightened.

CAUTIOUS EXCITEMENT. It's good to have our Teddy back! Though I admit, I kinda miss the dreadful, painfully 90s fashion sense. Wherefore art thou, pleather newsboy caps? Also, uh, wow. Boy got skinny over those years. Being dead takes a lot offa ya, I guess.

(I still have my Ted action figure atop my stereo. He hangs out with Booster, Deadpool, and Juggernaut with his cocktail umbrella.)

My Ted action figure is on my desk at work, where he completely fails to remind me not to eat that cookie. He is not a very good diet buddy.
