I just poked at the previous bits of this story the other day, I was very surprised and happy to see the new chapter! :) Also, Teddy I love you but relationships are not math equations and getting shot by terrorists is not a good summer project, mmkay? ;P
Hartley is trying to say "We're not in love so we shouldn't be in a relationship," but Ted is hearing "You are cheating on me emotionally. I'm not good enough for you."
Ted also hasn't learned that "you are being illogical" is not the best argument to use in a discussion about emotions with one's boyfriend.
"That's not fair! And it’s logically inconsistent!" I loved that line. I can just imagine a young Ted being so annoyed by inconsistencies and the annoyances of people not behaving as mathematically projected (while at the same time loving these two things very much). The Jarvis thing is interesting - something tells me this will not end well! Though I am getting a bit of a Doc Brown vibe from Jarvis, which makes his scenes a little more amusing than I'm sure they were written to be.
I am very glad that this is not abandoned, and I look forward to seeing more sometime within the next year :D
To be honest, because you've just built up this verse and made it really full of details and characters, I spent the first half of the chapter thinking "Well, maybe it'll work out alright. Maybe Jarvis will be a cool uncle and he'll help Ted with his hover craft and maybe the inventing is a metaphor for relationships and Ted gets a brainwave about Booster and - Wait, FBI agent!Dan. Nope, this isn't going to end well."
And, because I've read this series something like three times already, you could probably post a chapter every two years and I would still keep up with it. This is just such a charming 'verse.
It took awhile to figure out how non-superhero Dan fit in, but part-time FBI agent works for him. I wanted Jarvis to be a bit more than just "evil uncle", because the comics don't really deal with his and Ted's relationship prior to Jarvis trying to take over the world.
Last night, when I was about to turn in for bed, I got the sudden urge to re-read DanCharUni from start to finish. Did so, and before I realized what I was doing I'd clicked the link to Boostle and there, lo and behold, new chapter! Fangasms ensued XD
I was wondering how the relationship with Hartley would end! I couldn't think of any way that didn't involve the Rogues knocking Ted out and throwing him in a toolshed or copious amounts of heart-rending drama. Thank you for sparing my heart. The pains of that at least. Now I'm gonna be trying to figure out what happens next, like if it'll go down like in the comics or that poor, sweet man will be spared.
Hartley wasn't even supposed to be in this, much less a serious boyfriend. But he and Ted did so well together, it was almost a shame to break them up. Hartley's right, though--they were cute together, but never in love. And since Hartley will make it very clear that he broke up with Ted, and he's not in the least bit broken-hearted, there won't be any need for the Rogues to take Ted to the toolshed.
Oh, I'm so glad to see this back! The conversation between Ted and his parents was perfect and so, so realistic. You really captured the emotions well in that scene, and I love how his parents were concerned, still a bit shallow, but did have a trace of support for their son. And Ted's exasperation at their intrusion into his life fit in so perfectly
( ... )
Hartley/Ted came as a surprise to me, but it went, and ended, far better than I expected. Uncle Jarvis and Dan were intended pretty much from the beginning, although some of the details are still being worked out. It took a bit longer to get here then planned.

How could you possibly suspect that things with Uncle Jarvis will not end well? Have you been reading the comics?
Thank you!
