I'd been kicking around a vague idea of just would have happened in seasons 1-4 if Dawn had been there, for some time now. Then on Monday for some reason, the episode guide entry came into my head, and then the whole concept of all the different types quickly followed. Just one of those moments where two different ideas hit and become greater together.
