So this is a little inspired by silent_fields's Dan/Jones drouble "A Tale of Two Cities" in which Jones is in Japan. I thought "I want to do that tooooooo! :D" and so ... I present to you ... Howard and Vince in Japan. (Why they're there? Um ... you can make up your own reasons. XD)
The festival they are at is Tanabata.

“So what's this festival about again?”

Howard consulted his guidebook. “The meeting of the stars Vega and Altair … representing two mythological lovers, a princess and a cowherd, separated by the Milky Way ...”

“Fireworks!” Vince shouted, around a mouthful of kompeito. He'd been eating it constantly since they arrived in Japan, driving Howard insane. It was the perfect candy for Vince - colorful and nothing but sugar.

Howard fidgeted nervously with his yukata. “I can't believe you talked me into wearing this.”

“I let you pick the color … chestnut-brown, honestly!”

A breeze carried strains of music and chatter. People were hanging things on a bamboo tree near the river. “I think those're meant to be wishes,” Howard said.

“Let's do it, too.”

They were given narrow strips of paper. Howard hid his furtively as he wrote, so intent he missed Vince's lingering and serious gaze.

After they'd both hung their wishes, Howard asked, “What'd you wish for?”

“Oh, those cool boots I saw in Shibuya,” Vince lied. “You?”

“A Jazz revival,” Howard fibbed.

But both wishes said essentially the same thing: “I wish you were here.”
