I just got a Nikon Coolpix 2100 as a birthday present and I like it a lot. It's relatively cheap, simple, easy to find, low-maintenance, and durable (a must for me since I am so damn clumsy, especially with expensive things). Not a spectacular camera, but more than good enough for my purposes. It's only 2 megapixels, but the quality is good enough that a picture I took with it won a photography contest last year (when I was borrowing one from my dad). He's the one who picked this out for me, and he's a professional photographer, so you can be pretty assured of him knowing his stuff when it comes to cameras...

i have a sony cybershot dsc-p52. it has 3.2 megapixels and 2.0 zoom. if i knew when i bought it what i know now, i'd have gotten at least 4-5 mp, and 3.0 zoom. i don't think my pictures are clear enough, and i'd like more zoom. overall,i'm fairly happy--this is the first camera i've ever bought, but, i'll probably give it to my sister and upgrade in a few months.

I own a Fuji FinePix F-401 and I love it. It's compact, optical zoom, rechargable battery and has a lot of good features for a nice price. Good luck in your search!
