I have another reason not to shop at Mal-Wart. Even the government* says that once you factor in the quality of their products that they really aren't the cheapest place to buy things. For example: If you buy a t-shirt at Mal-Wart for $5 it's the same as buying a $10 t-shirt at say Old Navy because the quality of the shirt is so poor. You would have to purchase 2 t-shirts to last the length of time of one Old Navy t-shirt. Same for their other CHEAP ASS PLASTIC SHIT FROM CHINA!
*Yes our government said this. I heard this last week on NPR and I think the program was Talk Of The Nation.
If enough people boycott them, then hopefully they'll listen and change their policies. I know they're massive and powerful, but towns have successfully shut them out before, after all.
i hate wal-mart but not nearly as much as i hate k-mart. i REFUSE to shop there. unfortunately, i am a poor college student who has to rely on friends for transportation. and they go to walmart b/c its cheap. :-/
After a shitty experience trying to buy groceries at the local Super Kmart today, I probably won't shop there either. The cashier waited until I had put all the contents of my shopping cart on his conveyor belt to tell me that he was closed... even though his light had been on when I got in line and he could plainly see me there. He was a dick about it, too. They didn't get a dime from me today. I've been shopping there since I was alive (obviously with my mom when I was a kid :)) but they've been nothing but crappy for the last five or six years. They've gotten really grimy and unpleasant to shop in, too... which is how I remember Wal-Mart, come to think of it. Only Target keeps clean, pleasant stores.
I can understand having to go where you have transportation to, and hey... you're not using as much gas, so that's good. :)
i love Target. its the only store similar to *those* that i shop at willingly. mainly b/c it lacks the chaos and crowdedness of walmart and kmart.
my mom was mugged in front of the (now thankfully closed) k-mart in my hometown when i was 14. i was with her. the guy literally knocked her down and ran with her purse. we looked at the security tapes from that camera outside in front of the store...but it was useless because the idiots had put up a covered area for plants and things right in front of it. so the camera didn't catch anything but a big blank space where the covering was in front of it. when we complained to the head offices of k-mart about this store and the security camera problem, they got very pissy and rude to us.
it was a horrible experience and THAT is why i do not shop at K-mart.
