Ugh. I think maybe a tiny part of me was hoping against hope that it would prove us all wrong. :| To be honest, I wonder if maybe The Spirit is just the type of story that's never really going to adapt well to screen, even in the hands of a director who isn't a moron. Its art, new and old, is so iconic, and it's just the kind of atmosphere that I don't think we're really capable of capturing any more. Maybe if it'd been made in the forties or fifties, it might have faired better. If anything, I always imagined it would be something like The Shadow, but with a better plot.
Well, it has the sixty best graphic novels, with summaries for each and recommendations of things similar; a history of the genre, an original graphic novel by the author, a bit on the iconic writers and artists, on manga, film adaptations and on online comics. I guess it's a bit of a starter kit, and it seems like a good resource for discovering some new books.
It's almost touching how comic fans everywhere are united in their hatred of Miller's Spirit movie. It's like the Whos in Whoville holding hands and singing while Grinch-Miller scowls down at them from his icy fortress.

What sort of info does The Rough Guide to Graphic Novels contain? Sounds interesting...
