"Don't be burdened by regrets
or make your failures an obsession
or become embittered or possessed
by ruined hopes. Remember, when
you take yourself for granted,
feel rejected and unwanted, know
you're never just a hat
you're never only just a hat,
you know."

I never did thank you for posting this at the time. It was, and is, advice that's proving to be helpful.

I suppose I should better familiarize myself with TMBG. I thought they were purely a "silly" sort of group, but from this lyric, it sounds like they have some serious-ish, philosophical bent to them as wel.

TMBG has an incredible range of styles, themes, tunes, and everything to their music. It's entirely unpredictable. Worse when you realize that once in a while, they intentionally make something that SOUNDS meaningful and philosophical, but really isn't, just to mess with their fans. :-)

First of all, that is one sexy lamp. Glad you got it working! I'd keep it just to spice up the room.

Secondly, I'm going through a bit of the blues off and on myself, especially of the nostalgic sort. I'm leaving a lot behind in Raleigh, including a sister. But everyone I talk to has said the same basic things, and that's "Savannah is so beautiful!" and "You'll have so much fun." And I suppose they're right, in the sense that what's ahead is coming to me, and I should be ready to grin and embrace it. And what's behind me is unchangeable, no ands or so's or ifs. It's just plain unchangeable. The future is too broad to allow the past to drown it.

Granted I guess that may not be true for a 70-year-old, but if you think really deep about it, maybe it can still hold true.

I should have commented on this sooner after you posted it, but I think it's taken me this long to really appreciate what you were saying. Thank you for telling me what I needed to hear. I hope I'm able to continue to better myself from it.

What-ifs are really good at keeping you from doing something good. I know, I've been there. :)

Very true. It's easier said than done, of course, to shake yourself off and move forward, but it is what needs to be done.

When you posted this last year, it was quite helpful. It helped me realize what I was doing to myself, but it also was a much-needed reminder that other people know what's going through my mind and heart. It's taken some time for it to fully sink in. But I wanted to let you know that your words did help, even if I didn't acknowledge them at the time. Thank you.
