I really like http://www.christa-taylor.com/c/modest-swimwear/ this swimming costum, but I am terrified by the website which sells 'modest clothing for modern women' (and the fact that I clicked through from the Ladies Against Feminism website, via this Read more... )

Nice swimming costume, assuming it has some lycra in it. Though you would look like an extra from "Murder at the Beach".

I confess, I read that blog myself on occasion for the sheer bogglement value (the woman's mother must think "Where did I go wrong?"). She got married last week or so: train-wreck awaited. Just wait, my girl, I think, until you're no longer playing with your wendy house.

(I think my response to the "have it all" issues was summed up by Dorothy Sayers 70 years ago, when Harriet observes that no-one seems to expect men to "choose".)

I worry about her mother, who seems to be a normal single parent who has done her best and finds her daughter is rebeling in an extreme way, and basicly saying all her choices were wrong and damaging.

Totally. I object to the way she seems to think that people miss out by not being a homemaker. Why should men have opportunities to do whatever they want while women are confined to the home? Nice little Victorian bride...

Gah - between this and the Firefly uber-feminist rant last week it seems that no-one thinks we can be happy having both a family and a job. That said - I'd probably love to be able to give up work when we start a family - but unless the Government starts paying women who want to do that, then it ain't gonna happen...

The swimming costume looks good.

Given the person who wrote the dangerous feminism article is some kind of home schooling fundamentalist Christian I'm surprised her post is as restrained as it is.

I. Am. Flabbergasted.

"What comes in your mind when you hear the word 'courtship'? Personally, I immediately think of a sweet, pure young woman, blushing in excitement as her loving and protective father is having a man-to-man conversation with her courtier, behind closed doors. Then the young ones spend some time together, under the supervision and guidance of their parents, and prayerfully decide to get married. They have the incredibly beautiful gift of timid, innocent romance, of their first kiss - on their wedding day. The bliss! The many blessings God showered on this young couple!"

:O

!
*too many things to say*

I also read the other couple of sites. I *get* the anti-feminist stance, when it is an opinion that, in an informed way, finds problems with current or past broad feminist theory. But this! This crazy mix of religion and opinion and domesticity! *gasps*

It's very Victorian, angel in the house and all that. I think a number of studies have been done on the roles and expectations of women within fundamentalist Christian denominations. You can see why, really...
*remembers being told by father that ideally kissing would not happen until engaged*
