Love it! Radium party, truly deranged names, socks and all!

I was trying to think of a peculiary virulent shade of green, and radium sprang to mind. I heard an excellent radio programme a few years ago about radium parties and it all sprang together...

I have heard of radium glass (albeit in the last couple of months) - but what is a radium party?

Radium parties were a rather terrifying innovation of the 1930s and part of the radiation craze. People would include radium in cocktails (so the drinks glowed in the dark) and decorate themselves and their homes with the substance. Of course it was rather a dampner on the party when bodyparts started falling off...

Lovely!

"Socks...is this a purely academic interest, or something you actively pursue?" and had a chance to ask his own "Has the practice of punishment curses on pupils been finally eliminated since the new legislation was brought in?"

There's something so perfectly Dumbledore about that exchange!

Thank you! I like the idea of sock collections, sock-marts, sock auctions on ebay (or the 1930s wizarding equivalent), and perhaps even a form of sockfic...

All the sartorial details are lovely (I suppose even a young Dumbledore would have to mute the colours sometimes - and his interview outfit is a model of understated and only moderately clashing elegance) - but the prize has to go to

"Socks...is this a purely academic interest, or something you actively pursue?"

I loved all the little details here - the crazy names, the radium parties, the very realistic interview details. I'll rec this in my journal next time I post.

Thank you so much!

Thank you for such an inspiring prompt (and for the rec)! For someone with such a minute role, I have come up with quite a backstory for Leselia Frost. Muggle born, she was originally called Lesley, but changed her name to try to mask her origins. She acts as a sort of school secretary, the appropriate administrative charms not having been perfected at this point.

Just great! Thanks. I'm eager to try something short again myself now, but the standard is so high...especially this one.

It was my first Potterfic, and when I started to think of the clothes Dumbledore was wearing, the rest just flowed (with a helping hand from the internet). Really glad you enjoyed it.

No mention of their equal opportunities policy? ;-)

This *was* the 1930s, EOPs weren't in the common vocabulary until much later...
