I think OotP is a brilliant book, but I don't really love it, either. Unfortunately, it bears the unhappy distinction of being in the "everything gets worse" part of the overall HP plot.
The kids and I just read the first chapter of this today, since we finished GoF this afternoon. I remember reading it back when it came out and being like WHOA ANGRY HARRY and then thinking about everything he had been through and that he's fifteen and like ohhhh, yes.
Umbridge is HORRID.
Luna is six ways of awesome.
Neville is also awesome. The whole battle at the ministry at the end? FANTASTIC. I loved it.
Tonks = super awesome.
I second what Kate said, though--it makes me frustrated when Evil wins because Good doesn't talk to each other. I understand people do it, but it makes me want to throttle them if it goes on for too long. ;)
Also, I really loved all of Hermione's advice about girls and Harry and Ron being like "they're feeling WHAT?" Hahaha. And Harry teaching DADA to the kids was cool.
