- HELL YES VERMONT. 2 states in a week, this just makes me so so so so happy and proud and hopeful. I feel like printing out a blank map of the U.S. and coloring it in a state at a time. :D :D :D

- HIROMU ARAKAWA IS DOING THE JAPANESE COVER FOR DEMON'S LEXICON. OH MY GOD. oh my god. oh my god! The level of thrilled I am at right now does not ( Read more... )

This is not helpful for my sanity, especially because if we keep writing at the same rate then at deadline the fic will be... 99,000 words

What? WHAT? I fail to see the problem here, Aja :D :D :D

The description of your demise at the hands of Merlin BB is *epic* and I kind of wish I had an excuse to put it somewhere I could read it often, because. You've got a scoop and it's a honey [glee].

Hiromu Arakawa and the Demon's Lexicon - it's like some kind of beautiful, terrifying fandom convergence. Just. What's next? Will, I don't know, Takeshi Obata do the cover for one of Naomi Novik's books?

Takeshi Obata do the cover for one of Naomi Novik's books?

I would actually... well. I don't even know what I would do. I think I might actually die?

Like, it would be like all those eps of classic trek where Kirk convinces the computer to think itself to death by out-tricking it with ~logic~

only it would be, like, my inner fangirl would be unable to process the level of unattainable heights of spastic glee

i wouldn't know what to fangirl first, that Takeshi Obata was illustrating for Naomi Novik

or that my favorite living writer and purveyor of dragons was having her books illustrated by my favorite living artist and purveyor of gay serial killers

or that there could conceivably be a death note/temeraire crossover

or that laurence could conceivably be drawn with pageboy hair and purple plaid suits

or that this might be the ultimate excuse to get shalott to write hikago fanfic, oh my *god*

and it would create some sort of fannish mental collision from which my brain could not recover

and then i would frizzle and ( ... )

I'd kill to have Hiromu Arakawa draw me anything, let alone a published book cover :O!

I'm too brain dead to say anything much about agents. But I do wonder what they mean when they say, "I'm not the right agent for your manuscript." and nothing else. Did I offend them or bore them? No idea. But I certainly don't feel entitled to anything more from them.

I don't know. Am feeling flaily and hopeless.

I certainly don't think you would ever *offend* them. I mean I think you would have done your research well enough to know which agents not to query because your work would somehow annoy or irritate them. (I can't even think how that would happen, maybe if you accidentally queried a nonfiction agent or an inspirational fiction agent who didn't take well to the mythology, haha. Which I know you would never actually do ( ... )

I did get a canned rejection from someone who asked for the whole MS. I do expect some flavor of "this project is not right for my list." Hell, I had to write those rejections for two years--and the agent I worked for didn't want to send a canned response so I always had to find something to hang the rejection on that was specific to the ms.

I still have one agent sitting on the fifth draft. This is the third draft she's read. Everyone else I queried (six agents) has said no thanks. I think I need to overhaul my incredibly bland query letter. I hate this part.

That's so interesting. I would cling to the part about me not getting the pacing right. :/ And it sure as hell wasn't in the draft you were reading of mine.

Your writing is lovely. I have no idea what mine is anymore. Mostly sharp and painful.

the idea that you take each draft and start over from scratch completely blows me away, i can't even imagine how my writing would change and evolve from draft to draft if i did that ( ... )
