Gah. Most delightful JKR interview ever. I'm way way behind the times here, but dude, if you haven't, GO READ. reeeead what she says about Draco, omg. And the parallel to Regalus (!) and about the Dumbledore theories. But especially Draco. Wow. This is as explicit as we're ever likely to hear her get, I think, on her perception of him as a " ( Read more... )

I really like what she said about "anvil sized hints" for R/Hr in the previous books. Except that I know that people will go on and on about how disrespectful it is to her fans.

It’s a romantic, but unhealthy, and unfortunately all too common delusion of - delusion, there you go - of girls

Heh. JKR really needs like, a Tact Advisor or something.

I admit there's times when you do think how funny it would be to start lecturing her on the delusion that girls have about boys like Harry and Sirius. You know, those sexy ones.

One real drawback to HBP is it did make clear to me that this is defintely one of those women who has set ideas about how women are as opposed to men, and her ideas never resemble me at all. So this particular misinterpretation of Draco is a girl problem that we all go through. I mean, she could just as easily just explain what's wrong with the interp, but feels the need to speak on a problem close to her heart.;-)

Still, I can imagine the kinds of letters she talking about. It must be sort of funny to write that story and get girls asking for Draco's phone number--especially 14 year old girls who, you know, probably know the difference between fiction and reality more than she thinks.

Really. Harry's much more the type of guy you'd have to change, I would think - for starters, we have some idea of his behaviour as a boyfriend, in which he can be difficult and selfish, but he's 'got a lot to be upset about!' (and since this problem only seems to be with Harry/Cho and not Harry/Ginny, the inference seems to be that Cho was the 'wrong' woman for him, with her being responsible for the failure of their relationship, much like Lavendar is the wrong girl for Ron) ie. if you love and support him enough (again, something that does seem to come up an awful lot with women in relationships with uncaring men - he's had a tough life/childhood so he finds it difficult to trust/love) he'll change. Add to that the glamour of celebrity and Harry apparently being rather goodlooking himself (not to mention girls liking Daniel Radcliffe if we're going to apply the movies to their motives like JKR) as well as all his rebellion coming out in stereotypically 'attractive' ways such as fighting and challenging authority; as well as Lily ( ... )

This part in the the recent one is particularly telling, re James and Lily:

MA: How did they get together? She hated James, from what we’ve seen.
JKR: Did she really? You're a woman, you know what I'm saying. [Laughter.]

I love what she said about Draco, but it was a little upsetting that it seems like she thinks that the only reason people like Draco is because of the cuteness of Tom Felton. It's like she doesn't see those of us who love Draco because of the background and the moral questions and the depth that we see in him.

...not to mention his perfection for Harry. Hehe. And the power of love it would require for them to be together. *swoons*

The interview had me grinning like a nut.

Though I've since had to quash the urge to draw a picture of Draco sticking his emotions into little labelled cubby boxes like the have in Kindergartens.

I don't have much to say except that I loved that interview, thank you for linking it! I'd heard about it, but I didn't know where.

Also, I am in your profile. :))))
