Oh God, I met Frank Wildhorn at college (because his Civil War musical was rewritten and shown every year in town), and he was SUCH AN ASS. He was talking about writing musicals and the process and I just wanted to disagree with his entire process augh SO FRUSTRATING.
when I was like 12 and listening to him talk about how he wanted to dismantle the book musical and bring back pop numbers I would get so mad and angry I'd, like, have to leave the room lol, IF I HAD HAD AN ARCHNEMESIS WHEN I WAS A KID, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN FUCKING FRANK WILDHORN LOL.
Now I just look back and go, "SCREW YOU, FRANK WILDHORN, ALL THAT YOU HAVE SAID HAS COME TO PASS."
I know nothing about Broadway except that I was taken to see Sandy Dunan in Peter Pan and Tommy Tune and Twiggy in My One and Only and some other things I can't remember. Mostly we went to the ballet and the opera--or to see folk music, which I hated. Or The Grateful Dead, which was worse.
(a) that's a wonderful drawing of Oscar Hammerstein!! Re: the photo, he looks a lot more butch than I expected. (b) re: the last Broadway panel, is that the sound of Kaidoh Kaoru in the audience.
a) he's one of those Old Guard types you expect to look all fusty but in reality he was quite hot when he was younger! He and Richard Rodgers both. They both have that broad-shouldered 40's look going for them, lol.
b) I always have thought Kaidoh's hiss translates to "f you!" so, yes. :D
haha, I KEEP READING KATE BEATON and thinking HOLY CRAP THERE SHOULD BE ~MUSICAL THEATRE VERSIONS OF THESE~ and thus my lame comic jokes are born. I love her. I LOVE YOU ALSO <33333333 your enthusiasm warms my heart like tea!
